Valerie:
Hi everyone,
I don't have much news, but haven't really heard from folks in a while, and thought it was time to just drop a short note to say "hi." Our biggest news happened last night when Hobbs started to Front-Line Samson. He placed the medicine vial in the back of Samson's neck and the dog got spooked or startled, and bolted up. Hobbs howled and said "Oh my goodness!!" (in a less formal manner) and added, "I think I dislocated my finger!" His pinky finger was sticking out kind of sideways above the main middle joint. He wanted to grab it and shove it back into place, and I convinced him to go to the hospital. I drove him there with the kids, but we knew it'd be a few hours at the ER, so I brought the kids home and waited for his call later that night. Sure enough, it was broken, with a good size crack going sideways (horizontally) through the whole bone between the first small knuckle and the middle main knuckle. So anyway, he cabs home later that night, and I greet him to find that he is only wearing a bit of tape fastening his broken pinky to his ring finger. No cast, no splint, no sling, nothing. I couldn't get over my surprise: "Didn't they have a splint? How are you supposed to sleep? How are we supposed to re-tape this in a day or two with your finger barely attached? Shouldn't we at least attach it to a popsicle stick? etc." Anyway, he got up this morning and was ready to go to work, but opted against it in the end, and just tried to get a bit of rest. He is in quite a bit of pain, of course, but is being a trooper. This is our third bone break since being here! How odd is that? Hobbs was told again that he would likely be transferred to Guam sometime this summer, probably in July. We should know more in another month or so. We have decided to put the kids into the neighborhood Catholic school (Saint Anthony) in Tamuning, just a few blocks from our house. It is not our first pick in terms of academics, but appears to be the best option for us at this time, for a variety of reasons. I will try to get a job once we are settled in there, but I am not sure what office might be interested in hiring me on 6-7 hour day and a 3/4 year schedule (with Christmas and summers off). If I can find work tackling projects (back-log type of work) as opposed to daily court or client/customer obligations, such a scenario might be possible. I won't know though until we get there and I start asking around. Regarding the kids, they will be dancing this Friday evening at their school's annual performing arts festival. Jescie will be dancing cha cha slide, and Jack's class will be doing a gangnum (spelling?) style dance routine (that Korean cowboy dance). I can't wait. Both kids have to wear blue jeans, which is such a drag because neither of them own any pants. Must hit the stores... Kids are calling, so I will sign off for now. All my best to everyone. Hugs from all of us,
Linda:
Thanks for your email. I was JUST thinking of you this am after knocking over a pix of Jescie.
Glad to hear about kids performance (Shawna taught me about that gangnum dancing over xmas and since then I've noticed it all over the place)---I always think of Conner when I see those guys dancing. Have fun with your kids!
Sorry about Hobbs' finger--sounds painful. Since you're the only one who hasn't broken a bone in AS, you better be careful!!!!
We are good here.
Kent just finished his book (rough draft) this weekend and besides all his other activities (teacher union duties, school, Daddy's girl, recent addiction to Clash of Clans--iPad game---thanks to Ben!, dog walker and being best husband ever) he's tired. But super excited also. I get tired just watching what he does every day:)
Ben announced yesterday that there's only 30 something days left of school this year. Yikes! I need to figure out what he's going to do this summer.... He's had an awesome year in school; loves his classes and is an A student. He is indep at doing homework and starts all projects in advance, completing sections at a time!!! (I only needed to flip out once last year when he announced on a Sunday nite that he had a big project due the next day---he's definitely NOT a Glynn in the planning out/pacing himself thing). He's just finishing up Track and Field (after school/Sat thing) and continues w/ guitar. After seeing his buff cousins at xmas he begged for a pull up bar and now completes pull ups whenever he walks by his room. He's getting a lot stronger!
Jac continues to trek along- up and down in the seizure dept. She was better after fecal transplant a couple months ago then revved up again the past couple weeks. We're going to do another fecal transplant in a couple weeks. I just finished visiting the 4 possible high school classes for her to start in the fall---oh I can't believe she's going to HS!!! A final decision will be made in a few weeks once we talk w/ teachers, etc. She is starting to use sign language more and has 8-10 signs that she uses to augment her unintell. speech. It's really cute to "talk" w/ her and see how excited she gets when we understand her. We're training a new babysitter to add to our other 2 gals so hopefully we'll be able to go out a bit more.
I just received my "25 year" recognition letter from the hospital and a brochure to pick out a momento. I think I'll get the mantel clock:) I can't believe so much time has passed. I still work Sats and a weekday here and there. I'll pick up a few more days in summer. I have recently started an exercise routine early ams. I go to 5:30 yoga 3x/wk and run 3 ams/wk. At beg of May I'll officially start my marathon training schedule and am signed up to run the Victoria Marathon in Oct w/ my girlfriend Michele (same gal I ran Portland w/ last fall). Unfortunately this week I started perimenopausal symptoms again (hot flashes, nite sweats, grumpy, super mush brain, expanding belly, etc). I'm diving into natural suppl but so far no break. I hate to say this but I need to cut out coffee and chocolate:(
I just talked to mom and she said Shirley's funeral was nice. Over 400 people came to the "viewing" and family was happy about that. In addition to Mom being really upset about Shirley (they talked atleast once a week or more) she also just found out that Greg, the Pastor at her church and a good friend of hers, was fired. We don't know the reason yet. He's the nicest guy and the main reason Mom is so devoted to her church. I think she's going to leave the church.....She's still traveling back from Canada so we should know more tomorrow.
Well, I'm off to finish chores.
Thanks for getting us started on updates.

Lois:
Thanks for the updates, everyone!
Gerry's been travelling most of this month (and is currently in snowy Denver...he'll never escape the snow!!) so I'll give you an update from Florida. We bought our condo that we've been living in these last five years. We love it here and would have kept renting, but the owner was tired or renting, so we bought it from him privately.
Gerry is running the Grand Prix this year. It's 15 races throughout the year, ranging from 5k to marathon in length. You get points depending on your time. It is age and sex graded (based on the world record for your age and sex), so a 50 year old could actually win. Gerry is in 2nd place....you know who is in first place (Metzgar!). The winner gets $1000, and 2nd place gets $600, so it's quite a feat to be in the top 5. Gerry is getting pretty famous in the running circles here. There's always someone coming up to him and shaking his hand. One man did that and said welcome to the neighbourhood. We hadn't a clue who he was. It turns out he lives on Gerry's Sunday morning running route and he thought Gerry must live nearby (we actually live about 4 miles away...marathon runners are rare in Florida, I guess).
I'm running, too, but with the hot weather here, I'm just doing my usual plod. Let's hope this year, I'll have less hot flashes mixed with hot humid weather. Last summer was unbearable running. We will probably both do the local marathon in December.
We're all leaving this Friday for my nephew's wedding (Richard). I'm not sure who knows, but last year he was diagnosed with MS. The drugs have helped and he hasn't had a relapse. Still, they decided to move their wedding up to May (it was originally going to be in October), and we are all going to walk the MS walk the following day. Like our TEAM TOM T-shirts in Kona, we will be wearing TEAM RICH shirts and showing our support.
This trip to Canada will be Pip's first trip. She is indignant (to put it mildly) to be put in cage, so we have some doggie valium for her. She barks and whines so bad, if we didn't, the airline would probably ask us to leave the airplane. We tried it out last week and it worked for about 2 hours, and that should be enough to get us to Niagara Falls airport. Fingers crossed!
Eat.Drink.Jax. is catching on. Gerry gets more and more followers on Tweet. The online newspaper, Metro Jacksonville, is publishing Gerry's interviews, and he's getting quite a reputation for thoughtful and thorough interviews. Pretty good since Gerry's doing this in his spare time and he only launched the website last May. What the company will finally turn out to be, we're not sure, but it has been fun meeting all the restauranteurs, reviewing, and of course, Eating! :-)
That's the news from us. Hope you're all doing well! You're all welcome here anytime.

Danville Glynns
The Danville Glynn Update!
Val, I guess you've started the chain letter so here we go :)
Executive Summary: We are doing well!
I think school is in wind down mode for the boys. Both are looking
forward to summer. Parker has been part of a grade 2-3 split this year
and has really enjoyed himself. He still wants me in the classroom, so
I'm in on a regular basis for computers, math and spelling/vocabulary.
Conner is more than ready for the jump to middle school next year.
Grade 5 seems to have been a filler year, waiting for bigger and
better things in grade 6.
Boys are turning into sports junkies. Conner had a blast playing
football last year and will be back again this year. He knows
everything about the NFL and has watched all the preseason programs
leading up to this year's start to the season. Please don't call our
house starting Thursday and for the following three days as Conner
absorbs the draft. He is confident that the knows where the top 100
players are going already :).
Both boys are playing flag football currently and really having fun. I
think Parker is the youngest on the team - certainly the shortest, and
is the starting quarterback. He can throw further than most 12 year
olds. Lots of touchdowns and a perfect win/loss record for the season.
Conner is the coach/tactician on his team and is seen as the team
leader.
We are also starting swim season. Conner has decided to do the swim
camps for conditioning, but not do swim team. Parker is all in.
Football condition camp starts when school ends. One of our neighbors
is an ex NFL guy and has set up an NFL training camp for kids.
After that, it's tackle football for both the boys. We are all American now!
Kira is wrapping up UCSB - hard to believe! She will work there over
the summer again at the same role she did last year - tour guide for
incoming and potential school candidates. She has been accepted to a
Masters Program at the University of Seattle in their Education
Department and will start in September. In the end she will come out
with a Masters in Academic Administration - skills required to run a
university department and eventually a school. She already has a 20
hour a week high paying job lined up at the school when she arrives in
September. Almost everyone that graduates gets a job in their
profession. Kira went up to meet everyone and check out the city. I
think she is now friends with most of the department and knows the
faculty well. I don't think I ever talked to any of my professors! We
now have an excuse to visit Seattle on a regular basis.
Dianne continues to do amazingly well. She is still running the
Redwood Shores Office, just landed a very high profile client
(Pinterest) that many think will be the next Facebook, is very
involved with the firm's e executive group and is moving up the ranks.
Very impressive! She has been hanging out with a husband/wife team -
both former world champion weight lifters, and they have been getting
her whipped into shape - stronger, lighter and a leaner fighting
machine - watch out!
I'm still involved with the school on a regular basis, volunteering in
the classroom and on boards and committees. I'm wrapping up my
treasurer role this year after 3 years hoping I can add 30+ hours a
month back to my life! I'm still the Boy Scouts treasurer and if
Parker continues on next year, I'll sign up again. I joined the swim
team board this year to help out and get a chance to meet some more
people at the club we joined last year.
I have my annual Ironman coming up again. Back to Texas for May 18th.
Feeling pretty good and hope to go faster than last year, but you
never know!
We have lined up a big family vacation this year (without Kira who is
working all summer at UCSB again). We are heading back to Europe in
August for the first time in 8years. The plan is for a couple days in
Paris and then some time in Spain hanging out at the beach. Should be
fun!
Lots more going on. Follow us on Facebook. Check out the family blog
:) http://danvilleglynns.
